Options Chain Overview

The Options Chain feature in Tradier Web provides a comprehensive view of available options contracts for any given symbol. This guide will walk you through all the functionality and help you navigate the platform efficiently.

Setting Up Your Default Preferences

Before diving into the Options Chain, you can customize your default viewing preferences to streamline your workflow.

To set your default strike display:

  1. Click your Account Name in the top right corner of the Tradier Web Dashboard

  2. Select "My Preferences" from the dropdown menu

  3. Scroll to "Trade Preferences"

  4. Find the "Default In the Money Filter" setting

  5. Set your preferred number of strikes to display above and below the At-The-Money (ATM) strike

This setting determines how many strike prices you'll see by default when loading any options chain, saving you time on future searches.

Accessing the Options Chain
  1. Click the "Chains" tab from the main menu at the top of your screen

  2. Enter your desired symbol in the symbol entry field

  3. Press Enter or click the magnifying glass icon

  4. The options chain display will load along with the symbol data

Navigating the Interface

Strike Price Settings

On the right side of the interface, you'll find the Strike dropdown menu. This defaults to your preference settings but can be adjusted at any time using the dropdown menu.

Expiration Date Selection

The expiration dropdown menu allows you to select different contract expiration dates. When you scroll through the chains, this dropdown menu conveniently scrolls with you. The platform automatically displays the number of days remaining until each contract expires.

Switching Symbols

To analyze a different symbol, simply return to the symbol entry field, type in the new symbol, and press Enter. The chain will update automatically.

Viewing Options

The platform offers three distinct viewing modes:

  • All View (Default)

    Displays both calls and puts options together in a comprehensive view, allowing you to see the complete picture of available contracts.

  • Calls View

    Shows only call options with their relevant data points, perfect when you're focusing specifically on bullish strategies.

  • Puts View

    Displays only put options with their corresponding information, ideal for bearish strategies or protective positions.

Selecting Options Contracts

The Options Chain allows you to build complex strategies directly from the chain view using the selection buttons:

Buy and Sell Buttons

  • "B" Button (Buy):

    • First click: Adds leg as "Buy to Open"

    • Second click: Changes to "Buy to Close"

    • Third click: Removes from ticket

  • "S" Button (Sell):

    • First click: Adds leg as "Sell to Open"

    • Second click: Changes to "Sell to Close"

    • Third click: Removes from ticket

The Stager

As you make selections, the system automatically populates your choices in the "Stager" located in the top right corner. You can:

  • Preview your selections using the dropdown arrow

  • Modify the side of any leg within the stager

  • Review your strategy before sending to the trading ticket

Submitting Your Trade

Once you've configured your options strategy:

  1. Click the main "Send to Ticket" button

  2. The Trade Ticket will appear from the bottom of the screen

  3. Review, adjust, and preview all details in the Trade Ticket

  4. Submit your order when ready
